Heidi Unkrich

Heidi Unkrich has been helping children and young adults become better readers for over 20 years.

Begin Reading Today is a book she wanted to write for a long time because she could not find books her daughters and students could pick up and begin reading right away. The "easy readers" would contain many words the eager reader could not read, causing frustration and discouragement. Losing confidence or interest, the early reader would quickly give up the idea of picking up a book to read again anytime soon. Heidi set out to write a reading book in which the discouragement level would be low, and the feelings of success would be high. Not only that, she wanted the eager reader to have fun learning to read!

Heidi Unkrich graduated from Truman State University with a Bachelor of Science in English Education. She lives in Iowa with her husband where she enjoys spending time with her family, collecting old early readers, organizing, and, of course, reading!
