Kimberly D. Hill studies African American Christian internationalism during most of the Jim Crow era (the 1890s through the 1950s). She focuses on the activities of Southern Presbyterian missionaries and the social advocacy of Y.W.C.A. and Y.M.C.A. leaders. As part of a military family, she learned to value travel and cultural literacy from a young age. Her work at the University of Texas at Dallas continues to emphasize those values through course themes that include migration, the African Diaspora, religious diversity, and social justice.
