Robert F. Moore is the son of Glenn D. Moore Jr. and Dorothy Messenger Moore. His paternal Great-grandfather W. S. Moore came to Hawthorne from Braden, Tennessee circa 1882. At that time the name of the town was changed from Jamestown to Hawthorn (an "e" was added later due to a spelling error). Robert is a fourth generation Moore of Hawthorne. His father became an architect and built his home in Jacksonville, Florida, where Robert was born in 1945. On numerous occasions he traveled from Jacksonville to Hawthorne for visits and overnight stays with the Moore family.
Robert graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1963, then earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida State University in 1967 and a Master of Science in Psychology from Auburn University in 1970. He served in the U. S. Army Reserve as a Neuropsychiatric Specialist from 1968 to 1974. Two weeks out of graduate school, he was employed in various capacities with the Florida Department of Corrections and retired after a thirty-five-year career. During this time, Robert raised two children, Jenny and John Moore.
Robert retired to Jacksonville in 2005, the same year he married Patricia Teller Moore. He and Pat have been members of the Alachua County Historical Commission, where Pat served as Chair, and Hawthorne Area Historical Society, where Robert currently serves as president.
