Patrick Melroy (b1975) writes from a comfortable desk in Santa Barbara California. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He teaches at a variety of universities on the central coast of California. He was raised in the woods of Washington State and in front of the "always-on" television of the 1980’s. His ideas of right and wrong, hero and villain are obviously contaminated by pop culture and the horribly commercial capitalist mass market of the late 20th century America. Which likely is why he writes stories about its demise. Melroy takes his influences from video games, 70's & 80's television Sci-fi, contemporary popular fiction writers, and of course the apocalyptic foodie culture of Southern California. His work falls in line with a variety of genres, often demonstrating the authors lack of willingness to align himself too closely with any particular establishment.
