Kavya Kompella

Kavya Kompella is a young author based in Bangalore, India. Her storytelling journey began early. A passionate reader with a vivid imagination, Kavya wrote her debut novel at just nine years old, becoming one of India’s youngest best-selling authors with the release of her breakout Fungalore series.

Kavya’s creative spark ignited during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Stuck inside the four walls of the house due to the Coronavirus lockdowns, Kavya let her imagination soar to new worlds. She wrote not one but three books in rapid succession, creating the Fungalore adventure series. Kavya not only wrote but also illustrated each book herself, lending her work a distinctive voice and visual identity.

The series begins with The Three Adventurers at Fungalore. Fungalore, a boarding school that allows pets, is a fantasy world shaped by childhood curiosity, friendship, and a deep love of animals.

In the second book, The Three Adventurers at Fungalore Online, Kavya drew inspiration from her own online schooling experience, crafting a narrative that resonates with a generation shaped by digital classrooms.

The third adventure, Back at Fungalore with the Three Adventurers, brings readers full circle, returning the characters - and Kavya herself - back to physical school and shared adventures.

Kavya sets out to explore new creative territory in her latest book, 404 Girl Not Found, a gripping modern murder mystery with a mind-bending twist. Kavya writes with both clarity and heart, in a voice that appeals to all age groups.

Dear Reader,

Thank you for reading this book! I hope you liked reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I wrote the first book of the Fungalore series five years ago when I was nine. This summer, I wanted to write a murder mystery (and believe me, it’s harder than you think it is!)

A little about me: I study in Sishu Griha Senior School in Bangalore, India. I enjoy reading, basketball and playing the guitar.

Dear Reader,

I hope you like reading the Fungalore adventure series. We are using the proceeds from book sales to help children from COVID-affected families. Thank you for your contribution to this cause.

After Grade 3, I was looking forward to my summer holidays with some travel and having fun with friends, but the Corona virus spoilt all our plans. Since I was stuck at home, I started writing and then found it was so much fun that I couldn’t stop. That's how my first book came about. I was 9-years old when it was published.

I wrote the second and third books during Grade 4. I love animals and tried to include as many as possible in my books! I drew the illustrations and the covers for the books myself.
