Paulette Whitehurst enjoyed a successful career as an educator for more than thirty years in Henrico County, Virginia where she taught elementary, middle school, and community college students and achieved National Board Certification in Early Adolescence/English Language Arts. After retirement, she mentored and coached new teachers and supervised student teachers for Virginia Commonwealth University.
"A Child Is a Poem You Learn by Heart" is her first book. She has enjoyed writing and sharing with her students over the years. Like all good writing teachers, she wrote when the students wrote. This book began in a 5th grade classroom after sharing a story and a student remarked, "That sounds like a chapter from a book." These memories kept coming to light as she wrote with her students. Teaching is her first love. After retirement, she moved to the Outer Banks of NC for three years where this book finally assembled itself from a jumble of poems into a structured story of her life.
She lives in Chesterfield, VA with her husband and her Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Jack. She enjoys reading, writing, sewing, and playing with art. Visit her webpage at www.fairyfortbooks.com.
