King Weatherspoon (2002) was born in Cleveland, Ohio to an impoverished single mother who had no hope of possibly being able to see to Weatherspoon's needs as a child. He grew into a poster-child for underfunded childhood trauma, angry, tormented, in and out of foster care, or more simply, in and out of care.
When he was 12-years-old he discovered his affinity with writing. his intimate relationship with words. This affinity took him far. When he was 14-years-old he was awarded a $30,000 scholarship to attend a local predominantly White private School. It was there, that his potential stirred, and his activism flared. He spoke anti-racism rhetoric in length at Speech and Debate competitions at colleges across the country, and finally, he did it...he wrote the book. At 17-years-old, a senior in high school, Weatherspoon became an Amazon Best-selling Author and Poet after self-publishing his debut poetry collection "To, Too Many Children."
