I was born and brought up in Kettering and lived there until I went to university in Sheffield. I graduated in law and then trained as a Probation Officer, spending all my working life in Northamptonshire. After retiring, it was time for something different. I began to travel quite widely with my wife Margaret after we bought our first motor caravan, visiting most of the countries in Western Europe as well as Australia after our son emigrated there. We’ve had so many brilliant experiences - and a few bad ones - down the years, and although we’re now in our 70s we don’t intend to stop just yet!

One of my other interests over the past 20 years has been researching my family history which I came to only after the death of my father. I have become interested in linking that with the social history in which they existed, and also the religious history which motivated them. I’m a lifelong Baptist and evangelical history is also an interest.

Between us, Margaret and I have five children, three daughters and two sons, and 10 grandchildren (at the time of writing).
