Michael Shay was born in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany & grew up in Chicago. At the University of Iowa he studied with Louise Glück, was chosen to attend the summer session of the Iowa Graduate Poetry Workshop, & studied with Marvin Bell and Donald Justice. He also holds a Master Of Creative Arts In Creative, Experimental and Interdisciplinary Arts. (CEIA) Michael's work has appeared in literary journals including "The South Carolina Review", "Nimrod" and "Rhino". He was contributing editor to "Broken Word-The Alberta Street Anthology" Vols. I & II. A commercial photographer, Michael also rides his motorcycle, delights in his grandchild, practices traditional Japanese karate, brews his own beer, & lives in Portland, OR.
