VII Foundation

Gary Knight and Ron Haviv created the VII Foundation in response to the diminishing funding through traditional sources for documentary and narrative reporting. The Foundation supports projects that look at some of the most complex global issues and is engaged in publishing, exhibitions, education and advocacy. Gary Knight began his career in the late 1980’s as a photojournalist, first working in Cambodia and later covering many conflicts for Newsweek in the 1990’s and 2000’s, including most of those in Imagine: Reflections on Peace. He co-founded a photo agency called VII in 2001, to work within the media. It was his experience of covering the Iraq war in 2003 that sowed the seeds for this book - to examine what comes in the wake of war and what it takes for individuals and societies to recover after searing conflict.

Ron Haviv, photojournalist, has been witness to many of the wars examined in Imagine:Reflections on Peace. Some of his most notable work was produced during the Bosnian conflict, where he was amongst the first journalists to document “ethnic cleansing”; his pictures were later used as evidence in the war crimes trials at The Hague. He has won multiple awards and his work has appeared in many major publications. Haviv is a co-founder of the VII photo agency and the VII Foundation.
