Douglas Leiter grew up in Minnesota and traveled to China where he was hired as a soundman by CBS News during the coverage of the Tiananmen Square uprising in 1989. After college he went to law school and became a police officer. In 2008 his journey turned unexpectedly down a different path and he spent the next nine years in prison. He soon met Ali Awad, the subject of his second book, Operation Somalia Express: The Revenge of the Black Hawk Down. While working as director of the secular and chapel music programs in the Duluth Prison camp, Leiter also assisted other inmates with their legal cases, taught Chinese, and finished his first book, Reeboks and the Revolution: A Young Man's Journey in a Very Old Land. He currently writes for CCR STUDIOS, a liberal arts non-governmental organization founded in 2006. As a musician and a writer, one of his favorite words is "nuance". Everyone has their story and each story is really a song. Listen to the nuances their stories illustrate and better appreciate your own story.
