Mary Maddocks is a textile artist born in South Wales and now based near Bristol, UK. She studied languages and philosophy at Wadham College Oxford and then worked as a lawyer in London for several years. While working in law she bought her first loom and taught herself to weave in the evenings. What started out as a hobby soon became a passion and she decided to leave law to focus full time on weaving, sharing her passion with others through her popular weaving workshops. She now lives in the countryside outside Bristol. One of the many reasons Mary loves weaving is that there are few rules and huge scope to be creative and express your own personality and style. She finds the process of weaving both meditative and freeing. Mary's woven work is heavily influenced by the natural world and her travels in nature and she is drawn to organic, rustic materials. As well as teaching weaving, she also sells her woven pieces, weaving kits and yarn through her website.
