Genpride

Established in 2015 in Seattle, Washington, GenPRIDE is a nonprofit organization focused on the health and well-being of older LGBTQIA adults throughout the region. We are committed to providing them with a safe place to come together for education and recreation, to exercise, and to socialize. In addition, we conduct training sessions for housing and healthcare providers on how to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for LGBTQIA seniors.

The writing workshop that gave rise to this anthology is just one of our activities that build connections. Our programs are varied and foster meaningful ties among midlife, older, and younger generations of LGBTQIA people in our community.

The need for a space to come together has become even more evident in light of COVID-19—most everyone now understands what it is like to be isolated. We have built substantive relationships with other organizations to undertake the construction of a new LGBTQIA senior community center on Seattle’s Capitol Hill by 2022. GenPRIDE has been given an extraordinary opportunity to own this space for generations to come. The center will be co-located on the ground floor of a new affordable housing building for LGBTQIA seniors, a first of its kind in Washington.

Once we can safely gather again, GenPRIDE will re-open a physical location that will continue to provide dynamic connections and interactive opportunities for Seattle and King County’s LGBTQIA seniors and their supporters.
