Eugene E. Jones Jr.

Eugene E. Jones, Jr. is a public housing policy change agent with over 40 years of executive leadership experience in advocating for affordable housing in major cities across the United States and even Toronto, Canada and most recently the the U.S. Virgin Islands. He is also the author of Housing Humans a Vicarious Memorandum. His vision is to build communities where people can live with dignity in partnership with both private and public sectors and with Housing Urban Development Government Affairs.

Eugene (Gene) has also worked in community outreach with numerous organizations in varied roles throughout his life and also spent time in the United States Air Force. Eugene often speaks and leads discussions around the absolute dire need to bring awareness to the housing plight in America. He often leads executive round-tables with other housing practitioners on how to lead housing authorities; optimize operations, personnel and residents experiences into more of a holistic service, rather than just providing low-income shelter.

Launching in September of 2026, is Gene's second book, The Housing Practitioner's Playbook - How to Succeed as an Affordable Housing Advocate. This playbook is designed for individuals who are passionate about housing reform and advocacy, and for those who seek to reduce homelessness in America. This includes housing industry professionals with experience in advocacy, development, and management, as well as those in leadership roles such as housing commissioners, deputies, or executive directors within city, state, or national housing organizations.

In his new book, readers will find a blend of historical insights, case studies, and actionable strategies. The lessons learned from past policies—both their successes and failures—offer valuable guidance for shaping the future of affordable housing. By examining these experiences, I hope to inspire practitioners to think critically, act compassionately, and innovate boldly, but most importantly to DO SOMETHING.
