David Spear is the writer of nine books, the first of which to hit the shelves and Amazon in the UK is Our Man in Estepona, a detective thriller featuring the retired and idling ex-Met detective, Clive Grainger, with his sidekick at Scotland Yard, Debbie Glynn. His second novel, Once Upon a Crime in August is also available on Amazon. David retired to Spain a number of years ago, after a life in Casino management and Marketing and now writes full-time. His gritty, down to earth hero's are flawed yet personable and often call upon the skills of others to reach the ultimate conclusion... the often riotous or explosive answer to a whodunit. His characters often frequent the same bars and restaurants in the UK, Gibraltar or Spain that David does and the reader will recognise popular venues if they are a fan of English pubs. Readers will also recognise the misery of London transport commuting and a of wage slavery as Debbie Glynn commutes to Scotland Yard each day. In Once Upon a Crime in August, David once again calls upon his experience of casino's and poker players, to formulate a complex crime thriller with an explosive and deadly crime scene and an intricately woven journey to the dramatic conclusion.
Apart from loafing about in bars in Estepona and Brighton, David spends his days writing. He is a prolific writer and churns out ideas and work at a furious pace, a pace that matches his crime thrillers. He often brings a witty, droll sense of humour to his characters, in particular the Grainger and Glynn detective pairing of Our Man in Estepona. David writes his books with the voice of one who has lived and experienced much of what he writes. This, in itself, reflects his ironic view of life and what goes on around him. Retirement has given him time to observe and record the foibles of those he encounters on the beach fronts of Estepona and at home in Brighton.
