Sumit K. Mandal

Sumit Mandal works in the field of transregional history. He is interested in the history of inter-religious and inter-cultural interactions and their outcomes in the Muslim societies of the Malay World and the Indian Ocean as well as contemporary Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. His book Becoming Arab: Creole Histories and Modern Identity in the Malay World was awarded the Harry J Benda Prize in Southeast Asian Studies for 2020. He has worked at the University of Nottingham Malaysia since 2015.
