Paul Davison

Paul was born and raised on a council estate in Hull. He initially studied to become a chemical engineer and was awarded a PhD degree before working as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto, Canada. He joined the police service in 1982, and served for thirty years reaching the rank of Chief Superintendent. Most of his career was spent in the CID and he led many high-profile murder investigations both as a Detective Chief Inspector and Detective Superintendent. Paul is retired and lives in East Yorkshire.

Following his retirement in 2012, Paul stood as an independent candidate in the PCC elections against Lord Prescott, and he very nearly won, polling 29,000 votes.

Paul published 'Natalie' and 'Rachel' together in October 2020. They are true stories and they deserve to be told. The reader is given a unique and fascinating insight into the world of real life SIOs - the politics, challenges, and heart-breaking grief and loss. The extraordinary commitment, dedication and professionalism of both investigation teams, deserves to be made public for so many reasons. From the humble detective to the underwater search teams, from the press officer to HOLMES staff, from the SOCOs to the officers who gave their own time to search for Rachel. There are many more of course but they all had one thing in common - they were all unassuming heroes with a natural instinct to always strive to do the right thing, have no need of gossip, and look for the good in others. Paul feels privileged to have worked with such honourable, decent and inspiring individuals, and knows that justice for Natalie and Rachel, couldn't have been achieved without them.
