John Catan writes stories about his fellow introverts who are thrown into the perilous and unfamiliar world of extroverts. He likes to push himself out of his comfort zone by speaking at Toastmasters, and sometimes shakes things up even more by throwing in twists like juggling and using accents in his speechesneither of which he’s particularly good at. But that’s the point; it’s through our struggles that we learn and grow. At his first Toastmasters meeting, he laid low, hoping not to be called on to speak, but now mentors new members, serves as the club’s president, and coaches other Toastmasters clubs.
