Wayne Bromiley

I grew up in Bolton, Greater Manchester, UK. As a young boy, I loved reading short stories and how they rhymed. I held this close to my heart throughout my childhood. Now, as a father of two boys and the downtime due to Covid-19, I have finally started to put my ideas on paper. My first book, Huxley the Hippo and the squishy brown mud, was published in the middle of the global pandemic in 2020.

One thing my family and I have really missed in the last year is travelling. My favourite holiday was our honeymoon in Africa – which is where the character of my stories comes from. We had a noisy hippo outside our tent in South Africa who kept us awake every night. I found him fascinating and some years later, Huxley the Hippo was born on a dark autumn day in Finland. Huxley’s adventures take us back to Africa, although the main purpose of the stories is kindness, friendship, and doing the right thing.

I’m passionate about football and play as much as I can. I’m also coaching my eldest son’s team. Huxley has a great readership both in the UK and Finland and I cannot wait to make him globally known, friendly hippo.
