During a career in academic medical science, and then as an entrepreneur in drug development, my writing consisted of scientific articles and requirements of business; my oral presentations were lectures and business presentations. But upon retirement and moving from New England to Portland in 2006, I began writing short fiction, an endeavor begun in grade school, abandoned during my “working” years, then rekindled by joining two Northeast Portland flash-writing groups. Growing more confident about stringing words together, in 2012 I began an adventure story in the style of the radio serials I was enthralled with as a kid. The adventure is about a brilliant, retired scientist, Max Manus, and his intrepid wife Lena, a retired CIA assassin. Malevolent powers want Max's secret for attaining Superman-like power; Lena must protect Max and his secret from an unending parade of evil villains. Because of positive responses from my book club to my readings of the so-far thirty-plus episodes (serialized at spearpointpub.com), I have expanded my writing to a wider range of short stories and flash fiction, and public readings to a wider audience.
As a way to distribute our writing, in 2015 my business partner, Mizeta Moon, and I established SpearPoint Publications. To date, we have published twelve books, nine authored by us and three by other writers.
