James Evans protects his clients from disasters and cyber threats while keeping their business operations running smoothly and efficiently.
James started down the road towards an IT career in 1983 with a Radio Shack “Color Computer”, transitioning into the IBM PC world in 1988. Later, he would share his knowledge by helping people who were new to computers with basic PC setup and operation, often providing this assistance at no cost to help those who needed to learn basic computer skills. An avid user of local Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs), he predicted the future importance of online services and began writing new BBS software. The goal of this new software was to expand these online “islands” into a much larger community, a precursor to the modern Internet. In 1993, James began incorporating fledgling Internet technology into the project, but by late 1995 phased-out the BBS entirely in favor of becoming a dedicated Internet Service Provider (ISP.)
He transitioned out of ISP business in early 1998. Subsequent roles at new companies, including two private R&D labs, a dot-com, and an e-healthcare SaaS provider, presented exciting new challenges. These paths took him through the worlds of intellectual property, software and hardware engineering, and compliance. During this period, he was charged with the protection of millions of patient records and millions of dollars in credit card transactions.
Always creating with a passion and with an eye towards future advancement of technologies, James has had 37 patents issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In his work, James created early Wi-Fi products, multi-tenant high density routers, and specialty server hardware designs, while paving the way for e-commerce and e-healthcare applications.
After more than a decade of building companies for others, in January 2011, James decided to return focus to his own company, American Frontier. True to his history and experience, the mission was simple: bring IT functionality typically reserved for “big companies” to the small and medium-sized business. From assisting people with basic PC setup and operation in the late 1980s, to managing corporate networks and protecting businesses from cyber threats today, the theme of helping others navigate complex technologies and murky tech-speak to find real solutions has been clear and consistent for decades.
James and his team at American Frontier are located in Apex, NC and primarily serve the Raleigh/Durham, Research Triangle, and surrounding areas of North Carolina. American Frontier is a Managed Services Provider (MSP) and Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) which also operates a Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity facility, to help business owners get operational again after the worst disasters. The company is heavily involved in the community and routinely gives back to that community by hosting various events. This includes public events, such as business networking, educational, and health and wellness gatherings, as well as private events, such as meetings and training classes.
