James Handscombe

James studied Maths at Oxford and Harvard Universities before training to be a teacher. His temporary jobs included postal delivery on the Sheffield hills and farmhand in the Swiss potato fields. His first permanent job was teaching in Tonypandy Comprehensive School where, in addition to working his way through all the possible mistakes available to a newly qualified teacher, he ran a surprisingly popular maths club based around a game of strategic resource management set in an imaginary world of medieval castles. During two decades of teaching he has reduced (but not eliminated - teaching is hard) the incidence of beginner's mistakes. He is now the Principal of Harris Westminster Sixth Form, a school dedicated to developing scholarship amongst the young people of London and sending them out into the world to make it better, kinder, and more interesting. He is devoted to the principle that "Learning is Amazing" and includes memorizing poetry among his hobbies.
