Joe Gilbert

Joe Gilbert is a retired US Army officer having served for 24 years, including three tours in Iraq.

He currently owns and runs his small family farm, Hilltop Haven Farms. Hilltop Haven keeps honey bees, chickens and two draft horses, Loki and Pixie with help from the farm dog, Oscar.

The bees on Hilltop Haven are the inspiration for the book series, What's the Buzz, which chronicles the daily life and shenanigans of the bee colony, Honeyleaf Hive. All the books of What's the Buzz are based on real science of how bees live, search for nectar, make honey and communicate. Joe loves being a hobby beekeeper and the bees are fascinating. All of this fascination is shared through What's the Buzz!
