Christelle Collet

Christelle is a Black Queer activist, emerging writer, spoken word poet and textile artist at Ubuntu Fibres. Born in 1989 in Rodrigues Island, Mauritius, she found her way to Australia as an international student in 2010, where she spent the next decade, and gained citizenship. She writes in Mauritian Creole, French and English.

Building on her success to achieve a place in the top 15% of UWA Law School, Christelle has focused on researching the effect of racial bias on crime rates in Australia. She has worked as a diversity educator and inclusion consultant, advocated for vulnerable communities on executive boards and led initiatives such as Project One Heart - interviewing People of Colour and Queer parents across Australia to share their stories and voices with the world.

Outside of academia, Christelle enjoys memoir writing that recalls moments in her tumultuous life. Her crafted words expose raw honesty that digs into her own vulnerability to highlight aspects about humanity and society that need to be challenged. Whether in her writing, weaving or cloth painting, Christelle harnesses storytelling to help people see, remember and understand.
