Dr. Royce Sarpy is a native Texan, born in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Dallas, Texas. As a kid, he spent most of his play time writing stories and creating art. He started his work with youth through his mother's non-profit before moving to west Texas for college. Dr. Sarpy is an alumnus of Texas Tech University, Texas State University, and Howard University. At Texas State, he earned a Master's of Elementary Education. He relocated to New York City teaching elementary school in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brownsville, and East Harlem. Teaching primary ELA sparked his interest in writing children’s book to help fill the gap in culturally relevant bridge books. Dr. Sarpy earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Howard University, focusing on school culture and discipline. W.E.B. Du Bois proclaimed, "Education and work are the levers to uplift a people." Through Royce's work, he hopes to uplift people.
