James D. Kelly

James D. Kelly, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Director of Journalism at Indiana University Bloomington where he teaches photojournalism and healthcare reporting. He is a former newspaper photojournalist, former editor of Visual Communication Quarterly, and past head of the Visual Communication division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. In 2019 he was a Fulbright Scholar at Moi University’s Department of Communication Studies. Since 2010, he has regularly taught American and Kenyan journalism students as well as working journalists in East Africa about how to better report on healthcare in the region.
