I've been teaching academic writing and linguistics at the undergraduate level for roughly 12 years now, at all levels of the undergraduate program, and at five different institutions throughout my career.
I spent three years (2005-2008) lecturing at UWI, Mona, and UTech, Jamaica before moving to Canada to take up a visiting professor appointment in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at York University. I developed and taught three courses on Jamaican Creole - introducing students to the language and culture of Jamaica through a foreign language teaching model. What was meant to be a one-year engagement turned into a tenure of eight years which ended in 2016 with my full-time appointment at the University of Waterloo.
Since August 2016 I've been in the Department of English Language & Literature at the University of Waterloo where I teach courses in academic and technical writing, as well as introductory linguistics.
