Barbara J Barton

Barb Barton is known by many as a Renaissance woman - an endangered species biologist and deeply spiritual person, a wild foods gatherer and beekeeper, an activist and an educator, an award-winning author, singer-songwriter, and filmmaker.

She is the author of The Amazing Adventures of A Midwestern Girl (self published) and Manoomin: The Story of Wild Rice in Michigan (MSU Press). She is currently working on her highly anticipated third book about our relationship with wild foods and a year of seasonal gathering. For Barb, storytelling and cultural preservation are one in the same.

Manoomin won a 2020 Choice Outstanding Academic Title (American Library Association), 2020 Independent Publishers Award, 2019 Michigan Notable Book Award, and a 2018 Michigan History Award.

Barb has an MS in Ecology from Eastern Michigan University and a BS in Wildlife Management from Michigan State University.
