Hello, my name is Peter Bate, I am a teaching artist I have an Atelier studio on the NSW South Coast of Australia in a small village called Austinmmer where I conduct landscape and portrait painting lessons in oil paints for people that are interested in the creative process of producing their own artwork for recreational or professional reasons, there is a very strong social connection between the artists that develops over time and the sharing of ideas and techniques is encouraged, this method of tutoring has been honed over the twenty six years of my teaching career and resulted in launching many artists, young and mature age on a course that has been life enhancing for them.
Ever since I can remember I have always had a fascination and love of comic art and graphic novels, I loved the work of Walt Disney and The Popeye and Thimble theatre series by Elzie Crisler Segar, the comic artists from Britain and Tin Tin by the Belgian artist Georges Remi and so many others.
I drew cartoons at school many lampooning my long suffering teachers and I say now that despite this they also inspired and encouraged me, I attended art school when I left high school and never lost my love of cartooning, I decided that after all this time I may have gained enough understanding of the human condition, knowledge and experience to publish works of my own, the reader will possibly see that all the artists from the past and present have had some influence on my work and I am grateful and proud for that.
My intention is not to profit, but to share some humour and a little drama into peoples lives, I feel that we all could benefit from that, so I thank you in advance and I hope that my work gives some pleasure.
