I am an environmentalist. For the past 30+ years I have been afraid to say that out loud. But now I am ready to scream it from the rooftops!

On the anniversary of Earth Day in 1990, there was a television special that had a large lineup of stars. Bette Midler was Mother Earth. It was a full Hollywood production and they cast the part perfectly to grab our attention.

After that show, my husband and I started a small recycling center in our town of 1,800 residents. It began our journey as being active environmentalists and serving where we could.

One thing led to another. Shortly after that show I also started a recycling program at Utah State University where I eventually received a degree in Environmental Studies. Over the next couple of decades I managed to become a landfill superintendent, where I learned first hand what we as Americans waste every day. That led me to sitting on the board of the National Recycling Coalition and the Rural Recycling Council, so I could help educate a wide variety of communities.

My passion for teaching took me over to Colorado where I served as the Western Slope Pollution Prevention Coordinator and learned a lot about municipalities and the importance of the need to create a better online education system -because I was doing a lot of driving. This took me to Alaska where i received a Masters in Adult Education/Career and Technical Education with a focus on distance education.

In 2017 I joined Climate Reality, a project developed by former Vice President Al Gore. I attended the Leadership Training and went on to become a mentor at the trainings. It is from this group that the book before you was born.

Wayne and I live full time in our motorhome, and before the pandemic, were on a climate tour so we could educate more people about the crisis. We hope to return to that journey soon.

The focus of this book and our programs is on the solutions and the many successes that people are realizing all over the planet.

Please let me know what you think about the book and share any other ways you have lowered your carbon footprint.

Yours in Peace, Sandi
