Living in Barnsley most of my life with brief spells in Sheffield, Huddersfield and Rotherham, I have always had the ability to ad lib to songs, making up instant rhymes to the end of lines. As a child i have managed to write simple poems about real life situations. I grew up with a fantastic family background with a younger brother and sister. Both parents were always present. We never got spoilt in our upbringing, but our parents always got us "what we needed." They showed us how to live and love and appreciate all that we had, and respect what we had. Dad was a songwriter but never had anything published really. Life wasn't as easy as it is now with the digital era. Maybe I could get something in a book of dads to let the world see his ability.
I think I must have carried on my dad's writing skills as i enter the world of writing for public view. I can't think how far back I go with my poetry writing as it was just simple writing that i believed was just for me to see, or my beautiful wife as i began writing simple poems for her. Only recently did I realise that she has saved many. My poems are always about real life or situations and so when I began working professionally with children a few years back, I began writing poems about the children i worked with, or maybe to entertain them a little with a poem about the subject we had been looking at.
