Mr David Alan Cook

I am a retired banker, who only discovered my passion for writing poetry when I took early retirement in 2017. I subsequently found out that I took after my grandfather, Arthur Bancroft, who also had a love for writing and reciting poetry.

I write and perform my poetry as The Retired Bloke and my poetry can be found on my Instagram account theretiredbloke1 and on my website theretiredbloke.co.uk

My style is not abstract but, hopefully relatable by all folk. I try to capture life as it is in the 21st Century, and occasionally reflect on days gone by, earlier in my life, particularly growing up in Kingston Upon Hull.

Still Washing Hands is my first published poetry book and one in which I am using the royalties to support a local children’s hospice The Forget Me Not Trust in Huddersfield.

My other passion is running and I am currently completing a 1000 day running streak, raising funds for the hospice. At the time of writing I am sitting at 386 days.

I hope you enjoy my work and at the same time help me support a worthwhile charity in my home town of Huddersfield England.
