Gabriele grew up in Italy, where he discovered the art of animation when he was twelve years old.
Since moving to London, he’s worked on several well-known films, first using pencil and paper and later with computers. Over thirty years have passed since his first job in the UK (Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Mr Tod), his later collaborations with Sir Paul McCartney on two animated featurettes, and many other blockbusters, including the more recent The Jungle Book and The Lion King.
He has recently co-supervised the animation of the Oscar-winning The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy and the BBC’s mini-series Quentin Blake’s Box of Treasures.
In 2008, he also directed a well-received historical documentary on the first-ever animated feature film, Quirino Cristiani.
The Almondine series is his first work as an author of children’s books.
