Kimberly Powell

Kimberly Powell was born in Dayton, Ohio, to Thomas W. Kendell, entrepreneur/owner/founder of Kendell Construction Company, and Christy Kendell, a devoted stay-at-home mom.

Three pivotal childhood experiences formed the building blocks for everything that she loves and does today. As Kim writes in her upcoming book, The Passion & Purpose Project, “the inner child always knows what she wants to do.”

Around age 13, Kim began cheerleading, which was just fun! As a cheerleader, she learned to be on time, work well with others, cheer other people on, and wear a smile on her face all of the time. And when she became squad captain, she learned many important lessons about leadership.

Also around the age of 13, she began computer programming. Ever passionate about programming, she majored in computer science in college. This gave her extremely strong analytical and process skills that she now uses to navigate life and business.

And, as a teenager, she began volunteering at a local hospital. Volunteering at the hospital gave her a strong sense of purpose which is still very much alive in her today and helps her to connect to her community.

Kim is the co-founder and co-owner of Summit Industrial Flooring, a 30-year industrial flooring company headquartered in Ohio, with a Southeast Division in Charleston, SC. She co-owns and operates two 9,000 square foot luxury Woodhouse Day Spas in Charleston. She and her husband own and operate a Beef Jerky Experience in the Historic Market of Charleston. And, she is the founder and creator of Héron Meditation Candles, the first meditation candle line of its kind.

A leader in the Charleston business community, Kim frequently speaks on panels and contributes to business and entrepreneurial publications. Additionally, she sits on the prestigious Board of Governors at the College of Charleston, and serves as a judge and mentor for its Impact X program. Kim invests in various start-ups, and loves to mentor and support others in their entrepreneurial journeys.

She and her husband have three sons: Buckley (26), Bowen (25), and Christian (21). She credits her family with her entrepreneurial spirit: her mother for her confidence and personality; her father for her business integrity and math skills; her husband for teaching her to take risks and have fun; and her three sons for inspiring her to want to leave a legacy and teach them about persistence and perseverance. All of them are responsible for teaching Kim humility and generosity, which are essential for any real success in life.

Kim and her husband live in Charleston and Fripp Island, SC. They enjoy boating, fishing, family, work, and—of course—spa life!
