Michael R. Silvey, attorney at law, was born on Thomas Jefferson's birthday, Friday, April 13, 1945, the day after Franklin D. Roosevelt died. He grew-up the San Francisco Bay Area town of Pleasant Hill. He then went to U.C. Santa Barbara, where he majored in history and was a varsity swimmer for 3 years swimming distance freestyle and butterfly. He graduated from the University in 1967 with Honors and went to law school at U.C. Hastings in San Francisco where he was on the law review and was Order of the Coif. He started his law practice at Crosby, Heafey Roach & May in Oakland, CA in November 1971, where he practiced law for close to 20 years before moving to Portland, Oregon and joining the firm of Foster Pepper & Shefelman where he practice for another 20 years before moving to his present firm of Lane Powell, also in Portland.
Throughout his legal career he has been very active in the real estate community being on the Board of the Oregon chapters of NAIOP (National Association of Industrial and Office Properties)and the Counselors of Real Estate among other organizations in both Oakland and Portland. He has also been on the Boards of the YMCA of the East Bay, the YMCA of the Columbia- Willamette and Proud Ground, a community land trust and was its president for a number of years. He has taught as an adjunct professor at Portland State University in its Masters of Real Estate program. He has been recognized by his peers through various rating organizations including "Portland Lawyer of the Year", Best Lawyers, Real Estate 2016, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyer for Business, Real Estate (2013-2019) and "Oregon Super Lawyer", Thomson Reuters, Real Estate (2005-2019).
Mr. Silvey is licensed to practice in the States of California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. He is married to his wife Susan and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January 2021. They have two grown daughters, Kirsten and Sarah and two lovely cats at home named Leo and Tatyana.
