Michael Lewis

Prof Michael Lewis is Curator, Bayeux Tapestry Exhibition at the British Museum and previously Head of the Portable Antiquities Scheme (2015-25). He is Visiting Professor in Archaeology at the universities of Exeter, Helsinki and Reading. Michael is an expert on small archaeological finds of the medieval period and of the Bayeux Tapestry. His is a member of the Bayeux Tapestry Scientific Committee advising Bayeux Museum (since 2013) on the redisplay and reinterpretation of the embroidery. He was instrumental in helping secure the loan of the Tapestry to the UK in 2026.
