Melissa Fournier

Melissa Fournier, LMSW, is a clinical social worker who specializes in grief. She has worked in mental health; adult, pediatric, and perinatal hospice, and has been a featured speaker on traumatic loss, professional grief, and ethics. She facilitates Writing Through Loss workshops, Narrative Medicine workshops, and trains healthcare professionals on grief awareness. She holds an MSW from the University of Michigan, a BA from Wayne State University, and a Certificate of Professional Achievement in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University. Melissa is the author of Abruptio, a book of poems honoring the life of her daughter who died shortly after birth, co-editor of After: Stories About Loss and What Comes Next, and The Healer’s Burden: Stories and Poems of Professional Grief. Her writing has also appeared in various poetry journals.

Melissa lives in Traverse City, Michigan with her husband, Eric, and is the mother of two young adults, Gabby and Will. She loves rowing and walking her dogs, Moxie and Maverick.
