Growing up in Harlem, Georgia, Trae D. Johnson always wanted to be an author and entrepreneur. He desired to express his creativity through writing song lyrics, novels, and poems.
In 2008, Trae won an essay contest on a nationally syndicated radio show. The prize was a trip to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado to witness; then-Senator Barrack Obama accepts the nominations for the President of the United States.
Years of dreaming and wanting to become an author, Trae put his fear and nervousness on the shelf and began writing several potential storylines; however, one particular story kept his focused. Trae’s debut novel "Family Scars" was released on November 27, 2020. “Family Scars” is about a Businessman and Deacon of his church; Ellis Hickman, who loses his wife to cancer. Not only he deals with the pain of losing his wife, her questionable past, and trying to re-establish a relationship with his children.
“The overall goal for writing Family Scars is to write a great story and to introduce myself to the world as an author. I believe that everyone can relate to some of the characters or situations in the book. It could be the feeling of losing someone, knowing someone who died of cancer, re-evaluating your life, or just knowing that there are things in your past that stills affect you today. Regardless if it’s positive or negative,” said Trae.
As important to be an author, being an entrepreneur was a key goal. Not depending on the traditional publishing companies and the thousands of submissions they deal with, Trae established his publishing company called Campania Publishing, LLC; named after the community that he grew up in in Harlem, GA.
"It was vital for me to control my destiny. Being a self-publishing author, it was key for me to establish my audience and my brand.”
With his role as an entrepreneur, Trae’s future dream is to be a philanthropist who can play a vital role in communities and the world. He wants to make a positive impact in his community and the world.
