Hello fellow book lovers, I’m Barbara Barcellona Smith! I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, have family in Ramacca, Sicily near Mt. Etna, and grew up on the Central Coast of California with my Italian father, Giuseppe Barcellona, and Puerto Rican/ Cuban/ Lebanese mother, Emily. It was nothing to come home from school to find dead doves, rabbits or whatever my hunter-dad shot that day. And all my friends knew NOT to say “Gross!” no matter what they saw in our kitchen sink unless they wanted a twenty-minute lecture from the Sicilian Godfather on manners and expanding your horizon! My ethnic household was quite unique providing me with a lifetime supply of strange, entertaining, and valuable stories I’ve written and am excited to share with young readers today.
In addition to writing, I’ve worked as a radio promotions director, an ADDY award-winning television commercial production coordinator and a corporate marketer. I have a degree in journalism/public relations from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. I was an English as a Second Language educator and I currently live in Enterprise, Alabama near Fort Rucker, the home of Army Aviation.
