Luke Shady

Luke Shady is an up and coming author in the Children’s book genre with his new book series “When I Was”. Luke was born in Dubuque, Iowa and spent most of his childhood within the Iowa area. He moved to Nevada in high school where he graduated and decided to plant some roots. Luke started a career in law enforcement in 1999 and still works as a sergeant today. He is active within his community and helps with many events. He helps with a field day for children in the community, which is put on by the local sheriff’s office annually. Here families and their children can come and participate in a number of summer activities. Along with this, he participates in a Tip A Cop program where he fills in as a waiter at a local restaurant to raise money for Christmas food baskets. He also assists in the “Toys-for-Tots” program, and so much more. Luke values his community and works to help make it the best it can be.

One day in 2017 when Luke’s 15-year-old daughter McKenzie was cleaning her bedroom she kept coming across partially filled out notebooks, miscellaneous drawings, schoolwork and more that she had kept. She kept sharing things that she found while cleaning out her room, but sadly threw most of it away. She had dozens of notebooks that she had only used a couple pages and she was not going to keep them all. It was fun to see different things McKenzie had done over her childhood. Luke wished there was a way she could have collected these things in a manageable way. Inspiration struck and the idea of Luke’s first series was born. Luke decided to put together the “When I Was” series for a place kids could collect their childhood memories. The When I Was series makes available a book for each year as a child grows. The book offers questions that will document the child’s best friend, teacher, favorite sports, etc. The book also has the child draw pictures of their family, a dinosaur, and other things. The book also has pages for the child to attach school pictures and other pictures to keep them safe. When I Was series books also has blank drawing pages and journal pages for your child to complete as they see fit. Finally, at the end of the book your child can make a folder with the back two pages for report cards, school work, or other mementos that they want to keep safe. The hardback book option makes sure that the book will be durable and a keepsake for the child. After your child completes the book, simply put it on a shelf and get the next one. Years later you can reflect back on the book and enjoy the memories your child collected.

Luke hopes this book will be fun for your child to complete now, but even more fun to look back on ten years later, and will help preserve memories that may otherwise be lost.
