Jonathan Nicholls

Jonathan Nicholls was born in the Northamptonshire village of Deanshanger in 1948.

He went to Towcester Grammar School and formed a 'Beat Group' appropriately called ‘The Deanbeats’ in 1964. He learned to play and love, the Bass Guitar.

He joined the Metropolitan Police in 1968 at the age of 19 and retired in 1995 when he went fully professional with his band Mixed Feelings, www.mixedfeelings.com performing at many major events in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. ‘That Bloody Band’ Mixed Feelings Music and Mayhem, was written at the behest of many people, musicians and fans alike, who wanted to know more about the outlandish, riotous and hilarious adventures of this top event band.

He is the author of the acclaimed ‘Cheerful Sacrifice - The Battle of Arras 1917’, which was first published by Pen & Sword in 1990, a totally contrasting book which quickly went to 9 editions. It is still in print.

His latest book is 'Fragments of Remembrance' and was released on Amazon on 1 July 2022. It is the story of the Hampstead Pals, a group of Metropolitan Police Officers that locate 'Lost Boys' on the Battlefields of 1914-18 and is full of iinteresting and moving stories of lost Grandfathers, Uncles & Great Uncles now found. It also tells of taking veteran soldiers back to France during the 1980's.

He is also a much in demand, Battlefield Guide of the Great War 1914-18. During the Centenary years 2014-18, he was the principal guide for Travel Editions and the Daily Telegraph & Guardian Newspapers. www.ww1.co.uk

His interests include Arsenal Football Club, Rugby Football, Military History, writing, the Cinema, cooking, reading, music & malt whisky. He spends a lot of time in French Bars when not taking clients around the battlefields.

He lives in Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire and is married with one son and three grandchildren.
