Erickavu N Sunil

Erickavu N. Sunil is an acclaimed Carnatic Percussionist – Mridangam & Konnakkol, respected Academic & Rhythmology Researcher, prolific Multilingual Author & Columnist, and dedicated Cultural Ambassador & Arts Advocate. An A Grade Mridangam artiste of All India Radio, India’s national public service broadcaster, he currently serves as Assistant Professor of Mridangam at Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed to be University for Arts & Culture, a premier institution globally renowned for classical and traditional arts education.

Trained under eminent gurus (teachers) and having performed alongside legendary vocalists and instrumental maestros, Sunil has carved a distinctive niche in Carnatic rhythmology, blending tradition with innovation and performance with pedagogy. His contributions span concert performance, percussion ensembles, scholarly research, and global outreach in Indian percussion.

As an author, he has published two landmark works: Resounding Mridangam (2021), an award winning English title referenced internationally, and Mattolikkollunna Mridangam (2025), a comprehensive Malayalam volume published by the Kerala Bhasha Institute. His writings bridge the gap between performer, scholar, and informed listener, making complex rhythmic concepts accessible to diverse audiences.

Beyond performance and scholarship, Sunil is the Founder and Chairman of Indeevaram Cultural Trust, Thiruvananthapuram, a non-profit cultural organization committed to the preservation, promotion, and global dissemination of India’s classical and traditional arts.
