Stephen Collins

Stephen Collins is an illustrator and writer from Penge, southeast London. His work has appeared in many publications worldwide, and since 2011 he has contributed a weekly comic to Guardian Weekend magazine. He won the 2010 Jonathan Cape/Comica Graphic Short Story competition, and his first graphic novel The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil was subsequently published by Jonathan Cape in 2013. It was shortlisted for the Waterstones Book Of The Year and an Eisner Award. His collection of early strips, Some Comics By Stephen Collins, was published by Jonathan Cape in October 2014. In 2018 he illustrated his first children’s book, Baby’s First Bank Heist (Bloomsbury) which was followed by two sequels: Baby’s First Jailbreak (2019) and Baby's First Train Robbery (2021). In 2021 he illustrated The Dinosaur Awards, published by Frances Lincoln books. His second graphic novel, Susan Wogan’s Journey To The Stars, is due to be published by Faber and Faber in 2023. He lives with his wife and three young children in Hertfordshire, UK.
