John Garvin

John Garvin is a painter of fine-art cartoons in oils, making the surreal, real. He has been painting since 1977 and in the 1980s, studied under the master cartoon artist, Carl Barks. Garvin obtained his MA in English from the University of Oregon in 1989.

A creator at Sony PlayStation for 25 years, Garvin wrote and directed Days Gone, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Resistance: Retribution and the Syphon Filter series. Garvin's books include: Carl Barks: Paintings and Drawings 1966-1971 and its companion volume Garé Barks Paintings and Drawings 1968-1981, The Clan of Munes, After Carl Barks: Painting Fine-Art Cartoons in Oils, The Landon School of Illustrating and Cartooning and The W.L. Evans School of Cartooning and Caricaturing. He has also published a new graphic novel: Trace War, set in a far-future Pacific Northwest.
