Hans Meyer

I am Hans Meyer - professional chef, ethnographer, traveler, recipe collector. I think I'm not a bad father, but it is better to clarify this with my wife and my two daughters.

Perhaps because for the past 30 years I have been collecting recipes for dishes from various cuisines of the world and finding them on gastronomic travels, I devote much less time than I would like to my loved ones. I hope they are not mad at me.

I am obsessed with my occupation and I can’t help myself.

In my arsenal there are traditional dishes that I bring from every trip, there are exotic dishes, at first glance, with products that are difficult to combine. And I'm also a big hunter of forgotten dishes, the recipes of which are known to only a few people in the world.

I see my mission in sharing with my beloved readers the culinary masterpieces that I bring from each trip or that you send me. And yes, I cook each of these recipes, and only after that do they appear in my books.

The food traditions of ethnic groups are among the most stable elements of cultures. These traditions are able to survive in the modern unified world and, because of this, they can serve as the most persistent marker of their ethnic identity.

Through the preparation of various dishes of different ethnographic groups, I study culture, everyday life, better understand the diversity of countries, people's habits, and traditions

The gastronomic habits and preferences of each nation have evolved over many centuries. National cuisines were gradually created, which are an integral part of any national culture. Today at each nation has its own national cuisine, which is characterized by its own, different from others, national dishes. This does not mean at all that the national cuisine is something closed, frozen once and for all. Cooking is one of the least isolated parts of the national culture. There is interpenetration and mutual influence of national cuisines. But this does not exclude their originality, since each nation gives any dishes, including those created by representatives of a different nationality, their own special taste.
