Mario Marques

Mario Marques is an award-winning Brazilian journalist, political strategist, and writer, 56 years old, with a career marked by innovation, versatility, and deep cultural engagement.

Born in Nova Iguaçu, in the Baixada Fluminense region, on November 8, 1969, he began his journalistic career in 1989 as a contributor to the newspaper "Fato a Mano". Soon after, he founded "A Clava do Som," one of the first independent music newspapers in Brazil, focusing on progressive rock and alternative culture—a pioneering publication that covered the genre worldwide.

Between 1995 and 2009, he worked as a music critic, reporter, editor, and publisher for some of the country's leading newspapers, such as "O Globo" and "Jornal do Brasil," consolidating his signature in cultural journalism and being recognized as one of the great observers of the transformation of Brazilian behavior and music at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries.

Starting in 2009, he migrated to the field of strategic communication and political marketing, founding the LabPop agency, which became a national reference in scenario analysis, opinion research, and image building for public figures. Through LabPop, he participated in successful campaigns in several states, advising politicians, city halls, and private companies with a sophisticated and analytical perspective on contemporary Brazil.

In the literary world, he is the author of 13 books, including the emblematic "Voto do Futuro" (Vote of the Future), "Como Identificar e Lidar com um Mau-caráter I e II" (How to Identify and Deal with a Frenemy I and II), and "Guinga – O Compositor que Perpetua o Tempo" (Guinga – The Composer Who Perpetuates Time), the latter a literary tribute to the renowned Brazilian composer from Rio de Janeiro.

His works explore themes such as behavior, politics, music, and human relationships, always with analytical depth and accessible language.

His fiction debut occurred in 2025 with the novel "Tudo Acabou Ontem" (Love Died Yesterday), a book reminiscent of Alejandro Iñarritu's films and art-house cinema experiences. Set between Nova Iguaçu, New York, and Kansas City in the 1980s, the work blends music, love, silence, and youth in an emotional and cinematic narrative that has been captivating readers in various countries.

In addition to books and his work as a strategist, Mario Marques also produced recording projects with historical names in Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), such as Flávio Venturini, reaffirming his visceral connection to music.

Today, he lives between Rio de Janeiro and Londrina (PR), dividing his time between editorial work, strategic communication projects, and literary creation—always with an affectionate, critical, and acerbic perspective on the times we live in.
