In my profession as a farrier/blacksmith I have been blessed to meet many people from diverse backgrounds and professions. I would like to encourage everyone to look into their own family history. Every family has a truly remarkable story to tell, and you may never know where that tale will lead you.

My family story led me back to 1722, to some Palatine German farmers and some Mohawk Indians. They were truly the first settlers of the Mohawk Valley of Upstate New York. Their service in the American Revolution led me to learn about General Benedict Arnold, and gave me a thirst to learn more. I uncovered questions that became a 35-year quest and hobby.

As I researched, I found a great injustice had been done to General Arnold and his family. I felt he had been demonized by history for far too long. I also felt I owed him a great debt for his remarkable heroism, and the service he gave to form this country.

I never dreamed of writing a book, but the “Dark Eagle” inspired me to tell his tale. I hope you enjoy what I have learned – that General Benedict Arnold was truly one of America’s heroes.
