Born in Eastbourne, Sussex, England in 1954 my father was a policeman and my mother was a nurse. She was born in Ireland so in later years I sought and have dual nationality. .
When I was eight we moved to Worthing Sussex England and my father opened a successful shop with a postoffice that sold amongst other things paper back books.
I went from Steyning Grammar School to Guy's Hospital Medical School in London. I had an abundantly rich career working in Nigeria, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the USA. If I had my life again and could choose between politician, movie star or doctor, I would choose doctor without an instant's hesitation. But I would start writing earlier.
I have two brothers, two sons, two daughters and five grandchildren all girls.
I still work as an infectious disease doctor.
