Dan Madden

History has fascinated Dan since his high school days in Danvers, Massachusetts. Living near so many towns founded in the 1600s, likely got him started! Dan has a BA from Boston College in 1966 where he specialized in European and Constitutional History. Six years later, he earned his Ph.D. at University of Wisconsin in American Constitutional History.

Most of his professional career focused on economic development strategies for communities and states. History remained the vocation he loved, spending many enjoyable hours delving into the past.

Dan lives in Sun City Florida with his wife Judy and their talented pet lovebird, Sunshine. They have two children, two grandchildren, and have proudly just celebrated their Fifty Second Anniversary.

BOOKS:

Dan’s three books are THE TWISTY TRAIL FROM HOMER TO COPERNICUS; ROOTS OF THE FIRST AMERICAN REPUBLIC, 1745-1775; BEGINNING THE WORLD OVER AGAIN, 1776-89. PRAISE:

RONNI WILKERSON, Activities Director, Aston Gardens, Sun City Center

“Dan has been holding Monthly American Revolution Lectures for our residents in the Ballroom. He puts together wonderful presentations and has such a way of capturing our attention as he tells the stories of so many interesting historical characters and the parts they played in history.”

JAMES on ROOTS OF THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC:

“There is so much to like about this book I almost don't know where to begin. It's extremely well researched and gives the reader so many of the back stories that led up to the American Revolution. The insights into the roles that English politics and European intrigues played are clearly laid out. This is the background information I wished we had learned in school. Lots of details presented in a clear and engaging style. On several occasions I found myself saying, "So THAT'S how that happened. Now it makes sense." And an unexpected bonus is the fact that the author has family roots that extend to the story of that era.

I'm an avowed history nut and I found this to be interesting and fun to read. I even bought a couple of extra copies for friends who appreciate history. Enjoy!”

KATHLEEN on LECTURE SERIES:

“This is the second of my cousin Dan's lectures on the history and steps up to the American Revolution that I got to video that I have to share. If you have some time, again, it is worth it. It is also worth it to note that HE NEVER USES NOTES! As a frequent public speaker, I find this to be SOOOO impressive”.

NORMAN, at Dahlonega Literary Festival:

Very interesting read!

Great job intertwining the roots of revolution in both Europe and North America. I marveled at the communication between the colonies via pamphlets, letters, and newspapers such as the Boston Gazette! (No social media back then). The glossary was very helpful in keeping the dramatis personae well ordered throughout the narrative. I enjoyed the author's writing style which helped make this book an easy read and sparked my curiosity enough to explore this subject further. I purchased this volume at a book fair and was able to speak with the author and found him genial and knowledgeable.
