Sabri Ciftci

Sabri Ciftci is professor of political science and Michael W. Suleiman Chair in Arab and Arab-American Studies at Kansas State University.He is also the founding director of Middle East Studies minor. His research interests include Islam and democracy, legislative politics, Middle East, and Turkish politics. His most recent projects examined justice and democracy in the Muslim World, social roots of religious outlooks in MENA, and parliamentary behavior in Turkey.

Ciftci is the author of Islam, Justice, and Democracy (2021, Temple University Press) and co-author of Beyond Piety and Politics (2022, Indiana University Press). His first book, Parliament in Turkey since 1876 was published in Turkish by Siyasal Kitabevi (2006). He has also widely published in such journals as Comparative Political Studies, Political Research Quarterly, Democratization, International Political Science Review, and Foreign Policy Analysis among others.

When not researching or teaching, Ciftci likes to spend time with his family, hike, or draw Islamic calligraphy.
